Carers can apply to the Short Term Break for Carers Fund if you have not had a break for over 12 months due to financial difficulties. The maximum that can be applied for is £300, or up to £500 if there are alternative care costs or if your cared for is going to accompany you on the break. For more information and an application form, phone Beryl at the Carers Support Service, Chichester, Regis & Rural, on 01243 537011.
Funding may be available for carers to take a break from their caring situation. From 2010-2012, NHS West Sussex has made available £15,000 to each of the three Carers Support Services in West Sussex to provide carers with short respite breaks. Priority will be given to carers who have not had a break in the last 12 months; applications will not be considered if the carer has already paid for a break. The maximum amount a carer can apply for in any 12 months is £300 or up to £500 if the cared for person is accompanying them. For more details contact your local West Sussex Carers Support Services
