Sitting schemes can give you the opportunity to take a short break for a few hours. Allowing you to do many things whilst the person you care for stays at home - including:- taking a little exercise, like a walk
- Visit with some friends
- Talk uninterrupted with family or friend on the phone
- Do some of the domestic chores or some gardening
- Watch some television or read a book
- Do some shopping
- Have a bath
- Have a hair cut and/or pamper yourself
- Or just get out for a few hours.
Local voluntary groups such as Crossroads provide sitting services.

In West Sussex, there are three Crossroads schemes covering the county. Each of the Crossroads services also provides additional respite care through social day care clubs and groups for the person with care needs to attend:
