Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS)

PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) is a new core service within each NHS Trust.

PALS staff are there to help you.

Examples of how they can help include contacting your doctor on your behalf to get more details about prescribed medication and taking the time to go through this information with you.
They can also help you identify useful services, put you in touch with them and possibly even help work with them - especially if that service is provided by another part of the NHS.

They are also there to provide a mechanism to enable the NHS to learn from your experiences of using services. PALS staff will provide feedback on common themes and concerns which patients, their carers and families bring to their attention and be a catalyst for change and improvement.
Their core functions are:

To be accessible and visible

To provide on the spot help and negotiate speedy resolutions to concerns

To act as a gateway to appropriate independent advice and support from local organisations

To provide information to patients, carers and families about Trust services

To be part of a local network with other PALS and to work across boundaries

To support staff to develop a responsive culture
