Home renewal - Funding for repairs and adaptations

Local councils are able to offer discretionary assistance to private home owners to help with repairs, improvements and adaptations. This may be through grants or loans and each council will have its own criteria as to who they will help.

Home Improvement Agencies can advise on applying for assistance as well as helping you review your housing options. To find out if there is an agency operating in your local area, contact Foundations, the co-ordinating body for Home Improvement Agencies: www.foundations.uk.com

There may also be grants or assistance available for installing energy efficiency measures such as draught-proofing, insulation, lagging the hot water tank and pipes and improving heating.
