Carers Support Service, Worthing and District

Support, information and advice for people looking after someone who is ill, frail or has a disability, and for the person being cared for. Set up in 1991 to provide confidential information and support to people who are looking after a family member, friend or neighbour living in the Fishersgate to Littlehampton areas.

They provide:
  • A support worker for carers of working age adults with a mental health difficulty, living in Adur, East Arun or Worthing.
  • A support and information worker specifically for older carers of people with learning difficulties.
  • Information on a huge range of topics connected with caring - e.g. benefits, local services, short breaks and equipment. The Carers Support Worker can also provide this information during monthly visits to GP surgeries in Henfield, Steyning, Storrington and Pulborough. She can be seen by appointment booked through the surgeries or telephone the number below if it is not possible to visit the surgery.
  • The chance to talk to someone about your feelings about being a carer, and access to free, formal counselling if required.
  • A quarterly newsletter to keep you informed of local activities for carers, training opportunities, new services, benefit changes etc.
  • A Carers Information Pack full of useful contacts in Health, Social and Caring Services and voluntary organisations.
  • Activities for carers including back care workshops, gentle exercise, pampering days, open meetings.
  • Access to the Healthy Living Centre for Older People and Carers at Methold House, including low-cost and free activities such as computer tuition, hairdressing, healthy walks, handicrafts and choir.
  • Access to low-cost complementary therapies through our arrangement with local complementary therapists.
  • Practical bereavement support where the person being cared for has died.
  • Information and support if the person you care for is in, or considering moving in, to a residential or nursing care home, including regular group meetings.
  • Access to Princess Royal Trust for Carers individual grants.
